NEWTOWNABBEY 1-2 ST.PATRICK'S

St. Patrick's qualified for their first football final in over 30 years with a fine spirited and hard fought victory over Newtownabbey.  Prior to the game St. Patrick's knew it was going to be a very difficult assignment as Newtownabbey had tasted success last year in the competition and so were a proven force at this level.

The first half was a very tight affair. St. Patrick's were playing against a very stiff breeze but defended resolutely and there were no real clear opportunities for Newtownabbey. Indeed, it was Nathan Lavery who on the break for St. Patrick's looked the most likely to conjure up a goal with his blistering pace.

H/T 0-0

St. Patrick's started the second period slowly and fell behind 10 minutes into the half when a deflected effort eluded Niall McKillon in goals.  The goal stirred St. Patrick's and they began to up their work rate all over the pitch. However, despite beginning to take control of the midfield St. Patrick's were creating very few opportunities. Then came the defining moment of the game .A Dr. Dowds inspired substitution saw Hannah Doherty introduced for Josh Dennison. Within minutes of her arrival the ball broke kindly at the feet of Hannah and she made no mistake in blasting the ball into the Newtownabbey goal. From this moment onwards it looked like their was only ever going to be one winner .St.Patrck's were creating good openings but a combination of good goalkeeping and fortunate defending meant Newtownabbey were holding on. Then with just 3 mins remaining before extra-time Newtownabbey's resistance was finally broken. A miss-hit shot on goal from Nathan Lavery lobbed up and over the Newtownabbey keeper into the top corner of the net.
