YEAR 12 BELFAST CUP

MODEL 0-1 ST.PATRICK'S

St.Patrick's recorded a fantastic hard fought victory in the opening round of the Maxol Direct U-16 Belfast Cup against a very strong Model side. The Model began the game on the front foot and were unlucky not to take the lead when a header from 6 yards bounced off the top of the crossbar and into safety from a St.Patrick's perspective. The first half was proving to be a very tight affair with both teams vying for dominance in the middle third of pitch. St.Patrick's took the lead 10 mins before the interval when an expertly taken Dean McWilliams free-kick found the bottom right hand corner of the Model goal.

H/T 0-1

The second half was a very tight affair with both teams creating decent opportunities without ever really threatening the opposition goal.  The Model began to really push hard the last 15 mins of the game and the St.Patrick's defenders Aaron Hillman, Philip McKibben, Dean McWilliams, Martin Catney and Colm McKeown along with goalkeeper Niall McKillon had to stand firm and resist the onslaught.  The game could have finished level right at the death when the Model struck a post, but Niall McKillon reacted superbly and bravely dove on the ball in amongst a posse of legs.  St.Patrick's closed out the game and now advance to a last 16 meeting with Newtownabbey in November.
