Mini Sagas - September 2019
In June two year 8 classes were entered into a writing competition “Survival sagas: Mission Chaos” by their English teacher, Mrs McCausland. There were 18,000 entries this year in the competition and five of our pupils were chosen to have their work published by the Young Writer’s company. Having their work selected is a fantastic boost to pupils’ confidence and showcases their writing skills as well as giving them a real audience and purpose for their writing. The English department are immensely proud of Jude McDonnell, Eddie Green, Ben Allsopp, Barry O’Kane and Katie McGurnaghan for their great work. A copy of the book will be delivered to the school next term. Well done everyone!
Work Experience - October 2019

The spectrum of employers who agreed to take on our students was vast, from multinationals like Ford to local businesses such as Camlin. Our thanks go out to all the employers who helped us and to the students who represented St Patrick’s Academy in such a positive way.

St Patrick’s Parish Centre hosted the lunch which catered for over 100 people, most of whom are members of the Senior Citizens club who meet weekly. The festivities included a four course lunch, ballot prizes and even some carol singing. St Patrick’s students provided a waiter service for the lunch. Together they made it a successful and fun filled day for all involved.

This programme aims to harness young people’s entrepreneurial drive as well as equip them with specific digital skills that are increasingly sought after by employers. Our students were highly commended for their idea that they pitched to a panel of judges at Lisburn Castlereagh City Council Island Centre, an event that was attended by several guest speakers and provided pupils with the opportunity to experience some of the latest products in augmented reality.
