Course Content
AS
Unit 1: Portfolio of Creative Skills
This unit enables you to develop an understanding of industrial and commercial practices through product analysis. Unit 1 is externally assessed by examination.
Unit 2 Design and Technology in Practice
Unit 2 builds on the knowledge, understanding and skills you gained during your GCSE coursework. Unit 2 is the coursework unit and involves the design and building of a project.
A2
Unit 3: Designing for the Future
Students will develop their knowledge and understanding of a range of modern design and manufacturing practices and contemporary design issues. Unit 3 is externally assessed by examination.
Unit 4: Commercial Design
Unit 4 is the coursework unit and involves the design and production of a project that builds on the knowledge, understanding and skills that you gained during your AS coursework.
Assessment Methods: External examination and coursework
Progression
An A level in Product Design is recognised by employers as a valuable qualification for those who would seek employment in any sphere of engineering or design, including interior design or graphics design. For those planning to go to university to study a broad range of design or engineering subjects such as electronic, mechanical, computer, aeronautical, etc, this is the subject for you.
Anyone that sees themselves as changing the world – either the look or the function of it; anyone that sees themselves as the next Bill Gates, James Dyson or even Lawrence Llewellyn- Bowen then this could be the subject that you’re looking for!!!!!!!!!!
