SAFER SCHOOLS NI DIGITAL PROFICIENCY COURSE

The Digital Proficiency courses provide an accessible way for pupils, parents/carers and professionals to gain the knowledge and build the confidence needed to navigate the online world safely and responsibly. They have been developed by online safety experts at INEQE Safeguarding Group incorporating Safer Schools NI.

Through a Mobile or Web App, users complete short video-based courses led by presenters who guide them through key aspects of online life and use relatable examples. Each course culminates in a class quiz (young children) and a proficiency test (for everyone else), ensuring knowledge has been absorbed. Topics covered include age restrictions, grooming, online bullying and artificial intelligence.

Why Proficiency Matters

Digital proficiency is essential across the school community; for parents, carers, professionals, and pupils to navigate the online world safely, allowing them to benefit from its opportunities while mitigating its risks. These foundational education courses plant seeds of safety from the youngest users to those who care for them.

This includes, knowing what to do, how to act responsibly, and where to seek appropriate help and guidance online and offline.
