Our Unique Year 8 Transition Programme

Here at St. Patrick’s Academy, we pride ourselves on our unique Year 8 Transition Programme. We have a dedicated Year 8 Block where Year 8 pupils spend a significant part of their day with their Class Tutor who is also their base teacher. Their base teacher delivers a number of subjects, and this allows for meaningful relationships to be built academically and pastorally. We have found that this level of nurture and support helps students make a smoother transition from primary to post-primary education. In the past we have hosted visits from other post-primary schools eager to follow our transition programme having realised the many benefits it offers to our students. A smooth transition results in happier students, relieved parents and creates the ideal learning environment.

Hello Primary 7 pupils, my role in the school is to support as you make the move from primary to secondary school. Here at St Patrick’s we take great pride in providing a welcoming, safe and caring learning community in which you can thrive. I am the Designated Child Protection Teacher in the school and this means I work closely with you, your teachers and other agencies to ensure you are safe and supported during your time at the school. I look forward to warmly welcoming you into our community in September 2022.

My name is Mrs Scarlett and I am the school SENCO.  My role involves co-ordinating the SEN provision in the school, working alongside the pastoral team and faculty leaders to ensure that children needing extra support are catered for through early identification... All subject teachers are primarily responsible for delivering the curriculum to our pupils with SEN and part of my role is to provide teachers and support staff with relevant information and training about our SEN pupils, so they can effectively plan for and deliver appropriate targeted lessons which meet the individual needs of our learners. Through working with external agencies, St Patrick’s Academy ensures that our pupils and teachers have access to specialist advice from the Education Authority when necessary. I am also the school’s Specialist Assessor, responsible for processing Access Arrangements for external examinations and internal testing. Working alongside the examinations officer, the Learning Support team aims to ensure that all children eligible for support are given access to it so that they can achieve their full potential.
