Key Stage 4

ESSENTIAL SKILLS APPLICATION OF NUMBER LEVEL 1/2

For some pupils a more suitable alternative to GCSE would be an Essential Skills Qualification.  This course aims to reward and motivate learners and improve their opportunities with topics designed to be interesting and relevant to everyday life.  Depending on progress over the two years, pupils will sit the Level One or Level Two CEA examination in Year 12.

GCSE MATHEMATICS

This course builds on the broad objectives of the northern Ireland Curriculum.

There are two tiers of entry, Foundation and Higher, and each tier offers a choice of units that are suited to a range of abilities.

The course is assessed through written examination papers. These will assess Using and Applying mathematics, Number, Algebra, Geometry, Measures, Statistics and Probability.

It is essential that all students own their own set of mathematical equipment including a scientific calculator and protractor.

These items need to be brought into class on a daily basis.
